The story started when the young Pandi (Vijay Sethupathi’s son), decided that his ambition is to be a rowdy after having a chit chat with Motta Rajendraen. While his mother (Radhikaa Sarathkumar) tries her best to get him into the police, Pandi is living his life as a rowdy with his friend (RJ Balaji) without her knowing. He then meets a girl named Kathambari ( Nayanthara ) who has hearing impaired and fall for her. Kathambari explains her life story where she loses her hearing when a rowdy, Killivallavan (Parthiban) decides to take revenge on her father who is a cop when Kilivallavan sends a bomb to their home. Kathambari then becomes deaf and listen to a person by looking at their lips movement. After she found out that she is left all alone, Kathambari decides to hire a bigger rowdy to kill Killivallavan as a revenge. She talks with Pandi and though she has no faith with Pandi and his weird friends who pretends they are rowdy, she is yet convinced by Pandi. The movie’s journey continue with humour all the way along with it.

When Pandi tries to be so called heroic, he’s also comical in his actions. All this while I’ve seen Vijay Sethupathi in different kind of acting and in Naanum Rowdy Thaan, he reveals a quite different side of him. Other than his comic take, a unique softer and gentler side of him is exposed in this movie. Nayathara’s role of a deaf girl who is bold, is so powerful in such a beautiful way that you will feel for her and yet laugh at her. I found out that this is her first ever movie that she has dubbed herself. It was flawless! Some of the characters who are in there in this film automatically add comical values although some of them seem just to appear for a few scenes. Rj Balaji’s phone call scene is definitely my first favourite comedy scenes in this movie. Anandraj, who is famous for being villain in almost all his other movies, is hilarious in the scene where he kidnap Pandi’s friend and Kathambari and talk at cross purposes.

The producer of this film is none other than talented Dhanush. After all the success of VIP movie and National award winning film Kakka Muttai, his winning strikes again with Wunderbar Films production. Naanum Rowdy Thaan is directed by Vignesh Shivan, who is the director of previous cute romantic love story, Poda Podi. Although this is just his second movie, he has shown a lightness of touch throughout the whole movie that makes it so much fun to watch. Every time a scene tries to reach a serious revenge part, things will stay breezy and there’s always funny one-liner or even background music that suites the situation very well and makes us relax. Naanum Rowdy Thaan is a film with emotional beats and yet comedy fills in every part in an adorable yet admirable way.

Talking about the music, Naanum Rowdy Thaan can be definitely called as the musical film by our Anirudh. After watching this movie, I realise the songs join hands to tell the story. Background scores set our mood right in track and all the songs blend in with the movie fully. Indeed there is a reason why Anirudh is called Rockstar. For his magic touch to every song he composed, I can effectively capture the feel in the film. George C Williams as a cinematographer has done his part with perfect frames and editor Sreekar Prasad’s work with cuts keeps even some melodramatic scenes to be fleet-footed and nice to watch.

In total, if you haven’t watch movie yet, make sure you do so as soon as possible! Sit back and relax while enjoy this movie. For me personally, this movie has won my heart at first. The amusing moments in this film is definitely is comedic gold. I would give a five stars!
